Ilse Koch, also known as the “Witch of Buchenwald,” was a German SS functionary during World War II. She served as the wife of Karl-Otto Koch, the commandant of the Buchenwald and Majdanek concentration camps. Ilse Koch was known for her cruel treatment of prisoners and her active participation in the selection of prisoners for the camp’s SS staff. She was arrested by American troops at the end of the war. She was accused of having items made, like lampshades, out of bits of tattooed skin taken from prisoners. This wasn’t proven in court.  While waiting trial, she managed to seduce the prison doctor . He was jewish.  Ilse Koch was sentenced to life imprisonment and died in 1967 while serving her sentence.
