Elizabeth Volkenrath was a German SS member who served as a supervisor at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II. She was responsible for overseeing the selection of prisoners for the gas chambers, as well as the supervision of the female prisoners at the camp. Volkenrath was arrested by British forces in 1945 and was subsequently tried and convicted for war crimes. She was sentenced to death and executed by hanging in 1947. Volkenrath’s role in the Holocaust, as well as her actions at Auschwitz, have been widely condemned as being among the most heinous crimes committed during the war.
