My base rate for a headshot is $350. I discount that if you're a student. For headshots I generally shoot on location, and they typically take an hour or two. I shoot until we get a picture we're both happy with - this can be from 40 to 200 or even more images. I bring a laptop computer with me and we download and look at pictures while we shoot. This lets me get an idea of what is working and what isn't, and it gives you a great sense of how your finished pictures will look. Once the both of us are confident we have a picture we like, we sit together and pick out our favorite images, which later get posted to the web in my proofing gallery area. You can then show your pictures to friends and family for feedback, etc.
Once you've picked your headshot, I retouch it and prepare a master file of it for reproduction. I generally run you two 8x10 color prints at this time. All headshots have your name on them, etc. If you want me to prepare additional pictures, I charge $100 for each additional retouch/masterfile preparation. Please note that if I feel there is going to be a lot of retouching on your picture I will charge more for that extra work.
I provide you with a disk of all the pictures I took of you, and you are free to print any of them, as well as copies of your masterfile that you can use to run prints of your headshot, as well as versions of your headshot that can be easily sent via email. You keep everything!
I can do printing of headshots but I charge a lot to do it as it isn't worth my time. I recommend several professional photo reproduction companies whose work I rate as top notch and who are fair and honest to deal with. This is a much better situation overall for you - faster and less expensive.
For work beyond a headshot, we generally negotiate a price. I base things on $200 an hour for shooting, and $100 an hour for Photoshop work.
There are people shooting headshots who are cheaper than I, others who are a lot more expensive. My work is excellent and affordable, and I am really a pretty funny guy to hang out with, so you'll not only get great pictures with me, you'll have a lot of fun.
